As part of the 1996 bond issue, Bryant Elementary was to receive a new Media/Library Center and two classrooms. MAPC met with a site committee of parents and administrators weekly to develop the functional program for this project. The committee was involved in all decisions from concept to selection of finishes, resulting in a seamless addition connecting two 60+ year old buildings.

The heart of this addition is the Media Center/Library which is the information resource center of the school through the addition of a new technology package including computers, network and multimedia servers, cable TV and communications and network connections within the school district. The Media Center features a controlled workroom for mending and managing materials, teacher resource center, multimedia area, computer resource area, group reading and instructional area, shelf space for over 12,000 volumes and natural lighting provided by high windows allowing light but limiting visual connection to the outside.

Each classroom is more than 725 s.f. and contains chalkboards, tack boards, over 20’ of built-in cabinetry, computer stations linked to the server, and operable windows for natural light and ventilation.

MAPC's integration of this addition included for remodeling and modernization of the adjacent Kindergarten area providing enhanced group activities with the creation of a new commons area for the Kindergarten classrooms.

Completed on time and within budget, this project surpassed the program directives set out by the administration. Construction occurred while classes were in session with minimal interruption of normal operations.  (Photography by Jon B. Petersen Photography, Inc.)
