Sapulpa Fire Department - Station #2 In November of this 1994, MAPC’s Team was selected by the City of Sapulpa to design their new Fire Station to be located at the corner of Highway 97 and Speer Streets. McCool and Associates, P.C., provided assistance to the owner in developing the program and completed design and contract documents by February of 1995. MAPC's Team adjusted schedules to assure meeting our client’s schedule. This project was completed in April, 1996. Design of this new station has given our team particular insight, understanding and experience in the functional, technical and code related issues involved in fire station design, some of which follows:
This station was designed for a single four man company and equipped with a 1250 pumper, Rescue Van and Grass Rig. The station’s total area was 4,274 s.f.. The program included a dorm with lockers, toilets, showers, living area, kitchen, alarm/dispatch, entry, gear/ tool area and apparatus bay. The quarters design was unique with its high windows to limit public view of the interior and a conference/study room that can be converted into a single dorm for a female firefighter if needed. The exterior was all block masonry with a pitched shingle roof. The site was only 12,936 s.f., limiting the opportunity for drive-thru apparatus bays to only the pumper truck. Construction costs were $285,000.00 ($66.68/ s.f.) and total development costs were in the area of $325,000.00 ($76.04/s.f.) excluding land. The station’s interior is simple in finish and preferred options, such as fire sprinkler system and landscape with lawn sprinklers, were omitted.
